2nd Annual Crime Clean-Up Day

On May 14, 2011 nearly 150 members of the Blair County community collected together in Altoona and Tyrone, through the combined efforts of the Operation Our Town Gang Roundtable, Northern Blair Co. Roundtable, the Pennsylvania Gang Investigator’s Association and concerned citizens in order to support the 2nd Annual Crime Clean-Up Day. This effort was aimed at supporting law enforcement efforts to eliminate crime from our community, specifically gang crime, and graffiti.

In Altoona, a brief presentation was held in the morning at the Penn State Altoona Devorris Downtown Center with many respected members of the community including law enforcement, community leaders and concerned citizens. In Tyrone, volunteers gathered at the Joshua House in the morning before being dispersed to different areas.

Nearly 150 citizens in Altoona and Tyrone cleaned up various parks to take back our neighborhoods. In total, 10 parks were cleaned in Altoona and groups tackled problems to include sticker removal, graffiti clean-up and refreshing paint jobs. Each site was left with a Push Out the Pusher yard sign.

After the clean-up, volunteers in Altoona gathered to enjoy a free lunch provided by LeBistro. In Tyrone, volunteers gathered at Reservoir Park to enjoy hot dogs and refreshments.

We were thrilled to have support of many community and business partners including: Altoona Police Department, Central Blair Recreation & Park Commission, Forever Broadcasting, Home Depot, Joshua House, LeBistro, Penn State Altoona Devorris Downtown Center, and Pepsi Bottling Company.
